THE ROYAL NECROPOLIS

The necropolis contains nine shaft tombs belonging to the kings of Gubla who have reigned between the 19th and the 13th century B.C.. The 10-meter-deep tombs were carved in the natural cliff, and contained a funeral chamber where the sarcophagus is placed. In order to prevent looting, the tombs were hidden by filling the shafts. Only the tomb of King Abishemou can still be visited today.
